SAVI (Strut Adjusted Volume Implant)

The SAVI applicator is a single entry, multi-catheter applicator that delivers radiation therapy via a High Dose Rate (HDR) unit as part of the breast conservation therapy.  The design of the SAVI allows the device to conform to the size and shape of the lumpectomy cavity, delivering targeted radiation dose while sparing the surrounding healthy tissue and nearby organs such as the heart, lung, rib and skin.  In comparison to the typical six week course of treatment for whole breast radiation, the treatment with the SAVI is twice a day for five days.
